Consolidated Banknotes know as Ploughman’s Notes. Designs for the notes issued by the 8 Banks:-
Bank of Ireland, Hibernian Bank, Munster & Leinster bank, National bank, Northern Bank, Provincial Bank of Ireland, Royal Bank of Ireland, Ulster Bank under the auspices of the Currency Commission are virtually identical except for the values, titles and signatures. Six Denominations offered by The Currency Commission, £1, £5, £10, £50, £100 not all the banks issued all the denominations. The Hibernian, Northernand Provincial banks decided against issuing £50 and the £100 notes and the National Bank decided against issuing £20, £50 and £100 Notes. Design:- The Currency Commission decided on a 'Ploughman’s with a Team of two horses' as the central theme for the obverse on all the denominations, intended to symbolise Ireland's agricultural self-reliance. One Pound Reverse:- Customs House, Dublin Colours:- Green with orange & mauve underprint Obverse - green on mauve underprint Reverse Five Pounds:- Reverse:- St. Patrick's Bridge, Cork Colours:- Brown with green & brown underprint Obverse - brown with mauve underprint Reverse Ten Pounds Reverse:- Currency Commission Building, Foster Place, Dublin Colours:- Blue with green & brown underprint Obverse - brown with mauve Reverse Twenty Pounds Reverse: Ruined Monastery on the Rock of Cashel, Co Tipperary Colours: Red with pink & green underprint Obverse - red with mauve underprint Reverse Fifty Pounds Reverse: View of Croagh Patrick Mountain, Co Mayo Colours: Mauve with grey & pink underprint Obverse - mauve with green underprint Reverse One Hundred Pounds Reverse: View of Killiney Bay, Co. Dublin Colours: Olive green with green & brown underprint Obverse - brown with mauve underprint Reverse All notes in the Ploughman’s series were printed by Thomas De La Rue Limited (no imprint) on paper supplied by Portals. All notes carry the printers signature upper centre of Joseph Brenan for the Currency Commission and lower centre for the relative shareholding banks. The shareholding bank’s name signatories were applied separately, not being part of the basic plate.
